140^th Anniversary Updates - November 9, 2008

Do You Remember When?
…the homeless man was living in the parish center?
…St. Nicholas had a float in the Steamboat Days Parade?
....single floor vents above the furnace were the only source of heat in the church?
…the Great Flood of 1965 hit?

Can you clarify if St. Nicholas founder, Henry Zander and his family were buried in the new St. Nicholas cemetery or moved from the old into the new cemetery? Can you provide details about these stories or do you have other interesting tidbits about St. Nicholas and/or Carver’s past and more recent history that you can share? The 140^th Anniversary Committee would love to hear from you.

Make the 140^th celebration even more meaningful and interesting to you and your family. Your 140th Photos and Submissions are Safe

To address any concerns over where your submitted photos, written stories, artifacts, etc. are, the 140^th Anniversary Committee has developed an easy way to organize and track them. When you drop off your submissions, items will be placed in a numbered envelope. Please label the envelope with your name, address, phone number and brief description of contents. Any committee member removing items from the office will sign for them. Additionally, all photos and items will be returned to you as soon as possible.

And the Winner Is…
Thanks to all the parish children and teens who submitted 140^th Anniversary Logo ideas. Although there were many excellent pictures and logos, only one can be featured more prominently during the 140^th celebration. The winner, as selected by the 140^th Anniversary Committee, is Tiana Dauwalter. Congratulations Tiana!
We hope to use as many of the other entries as possible in some way. Thanks to everyone who participated!

EVENTS

Saturday & Sunday, February 21 & 22

Guest Priest, Father Paul Jarvis, from Guardian Angels will be here to celebrate at all four Masses.  Father Thomas will do the Masses at Guardian Angels.

 

 

Sunday, March 15

10:00 a.m. Mass with Archbishop John C. Nienstedt

 

St. Nicholas will also have an "All You Can Eat" Pancake, French Toast & "Homemade" Sausage Breakfast from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm. Cost of the breakfast is, $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children [children 4 and under are free]. There is also a family rate available for $20.00.  All proceeds go towards the building of our new Parish Center.

 

7:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Church Dale Ahlquist presents, “The G. K. Chesterton Reflection on Lent”. His books will also be on sale before and after the presentation.

 

Wednesday, March 25

6:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Church Alyssa Bormes will speak on Confession

 

Sunday, April 19

3:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Church Recitation of the chaplet of Divine Mercy with Benediction and Mass at 4 p.m.  A Spaghetti Supper will follow in the parish center at 5 p.m.

 

Sunday, April 26

10:00 a.m. Mass with Archbishop Emeritus Harry J. Flynn.

 

Saturday & Sunday, May 16 - 17

Guest Priest, Father Bob White, from St. Victoria Parish Family will be here to celebrate at all four masses.

 

Saturday, May 30

5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Concluding Dinner at Guardian Angels School gym
